Ocean Grove and Geelong Podiatrist, Amy Hawker gives her top tips for summer-ready feet!
As the weather starts to turn warmer, the sandals and thongs start to have a comeback. Our Podiatrist, Amy Hawker gives her top tips to get your feet ready for the summer months.
Check-Up
After your feet have emerged in Ugg boots, sock and boots, it’s a great idea to give them a check to see if you have any foot problems. We can help address many foot problems from corns, callus, heel pain and any other foot problems.
In the warmer weather, it’s not ideal to keep your feet covered up so its best to address any issues as soon as you notice them as they can become worse.
Salt Water Soak
Salt Water Foot soaks are a fantastic way to not only heal your feet but help you relax after a long hard day of being on your feet!
A good long foot soak will help to soften the skin, reduce swelling and prevent infections if you have cuts or blisters on your feet or around your toenails.
Exfoliate with a pumice stone
Now that summer is in full swing and you start to wear open toed shoes, you may notice that your skin has become dry and your heels have cracked.
To keep your feet flexible and nice, gently exfoliate your feet regularly This can be done using a pumice stone, sugar scrub (We love the frank body peppermint coffee scrub!) or file before applying some moisturiser, so you don’t have to hide your feet this summer.
Perhaps your feet are in need of some professional TLC which Stance Podiatry can help exfoliate them for you, using our sterile and modern equipment.
Moisturise
Don’t forget to moisturise your feet after you’ve soaked and exfoliated. They’ll be primed and ready to absorb moisture and this will keep your feet soft and your skin smooth for longer in the dry heat!
Sunscreen
Don’t forget to slip, slop and slap! As the weather warms up, no doubt you’ll be applying sunscreen, but how many times do you forget to put sunscreen on your feet?
After being covered up all winter, the top of your feet can be especially prone to sunburn so keep them protected from the sun just as you would the rest of your body.
Footwear
As the weather warms up, it can be tempting to roam around the house or head down to the beach without shoes on. Shoes are important as they provide protection and support. We recommend sliding wearing a pair of Archie Thongs! they are fashionable and functional. At only $35! they are an investment for the summer months. We stock a range of Archies at our Geelong & Ocean Grove Clinics.
If you’re experiencing foot problems then I would love to help your feet become summer ready in no time!
Please call email or text! I look forward to caring for you soon!
